Expectations for our trip to Rome:

My kids and I are talking about the Rome trip, which we are looking forward to. My kids are 8 and 3 years old. It is in the winter holidays we have to leave. I want to know their expectations for our trip.

I ask: "What are we going to eat down there - should we have pizza every day?"

Carla: "No, stracciatella.”

Me: "Where are we going soon, Nanna?"

"We are flying up into space and then we go to McDonald´s, " she answers.

- Who knew there was a McDonald's in space ...?

I don't know if I have so many expectations for our trip. I expect a good trip. Do what makes a good trip..?

For me it is probably (not too many scoldings from me). It's not something I do an orful lot, but it can slip occasionally. I expect some new input and new impressions. This applies both to us, as a family and to me, as an author. There are some historical places I want to see / revisit and get new impressions from again. The first time I was in Rome I was completely starstruck by the historic buildings, and afterwards I made up a story that takes place in ancient Rome. This time, I hope there will be new impressions that I can use in my novel.

I'm looking forward to seeing Pompeii. The place has been on my list, of places I would like to see, for a long time. It's a bus trip I booked from Rome. It will be a challenge with 2 children, but I have taken some precautions for the trip, hopefully, that will make the bus ride a little easier.

I also booked a guided tour of the Roman Forum. I´ll take a stroller for Nanna and then we have to take breaks when we need them along the way.

There are also a few days where I haven’t planned anything. Personally, I could easily see historical sites every day, but I think my children would like a break. I think we will find a swimming pool or a playground and spend some time there. There might also be a market place nearby we can explore.

It was a little about, mostly, my expectations for our trip. I'll probably write more about it here on the blog later.

Bitten by a mad Roman

Some years ago I went to Rome and I was just blown away by the tremendous amount of historical buildings there are. Some of these buildings are almost 2000 years old. They will still be standing after we are gone. I felt like being part of history for a brief moment in time.

I decided that I had to write a story that takes place in Ancient Rome.
